Message from Campus Coordinator

Prof. Bhaskar Chakraborti

North Bengal, which is traditionally known as a business hub for tea, timber and tourism, is eager to transcend boundaries and reach the next level of development by offering a wide variety of options to investors and entrepreneurs to put their money in emerging sectors such as real estate, IT and ITES, healthcare, education, manufacturing, etc. North Bengal’s strength is its strategic location. It shares international borders with three South Asian countries — Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh. It shares state borders with Assam, Sikkim and Bihar. It is also known as the gateway to the Northeast, and serves as a corridor to China and some South East Asian countries like Myanmar and Thailand.

Industries have been playing a significant role in the industrial scene of the state. It not only contributes substantially to SDP of West Bengal, but also provides a great deal of employment. Today the major industries in this region include tea, food processing, fruit juices, blended spices, vegetables, floriculture, cement, paper, hospitality, hospitals, tourism, sericulture, and rubber based industries. The strategic location, growing urbanization of Siliguri, Jalpaiguri and conducive weather conditions of Darjeeling have the potential of making it a favorable destination of IT players.

Service sector has been the main engine of economic growth in North Bengal. The largest share of SDP is contributed by banking and insurance businesses, which received a boost as a result of policies of economic liberalization being followed at the national level. With faster urbanization in the region, demands for banking and insurance services rise, especially from trading sector. The next largest sector which contributes significantly to the SDP is the tourism and hospitality industry. In the trading sector, wholesale trading activities plays an important role in the economy of North Bengal as well as its entire hinterland extending over the north eastern states and countries like Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh.

In this respect, the presence of this Institution in the growing commercial hub assumes even greater importance than before. In the light of this fact our Institution is sincerely focused to courses in Commerce and Management. The introduction of BBA Course is fruit of this effort.

The outbreak of the corona virus has become a major disruption to colleges and universities across the country. Society has been mentally fragmented with the spell of separatism from each other. Though this view has been drawn from the immediate past and current run of days, it requires a serious review to project the most optimum picture of the future of the world ahead. We at EIILM-Kolkata, Jalpaiguri Campus are acquainted with the current situation and adopted efficient and conversant digital technology to reach out to all the students across the curriculum, University activities, interactive workshops, and reversible presentations between the teachers and students towards delivering knowledge and transferable practices to the relevant students. The Institute has continuously gone for web-seminars (WEBINARs) to motivate and engage the student. EIILM-Kolkata Jalpaiguri Campus has created a new pathway for learning in the post-modern and digital era in India and in the global context. We look forward to groom the students of the next generation for a prosperous future in the light of the changing business and corporate scenario.
